Helius, the myth tells us, becoming enamoured of Rhodos, named the island Rhodes after her and caused the water which had overflowed it to disappear. This blending of paganism with Christianity is syncretism, and apostasy. Other mosaics in this Christian tomb depicted Jonah and the whale, the good shepherd carrying a lamb, and fishermen. ![]() The two left horses were destroyed when the hole was made to enter the tomb.
